This paper looks into how pre-automobility based cities, can better transition and leapfrog from locked-in scenarios compared to present automobility based cities. Taking the case example of Mumbai, this paper looks at present developments in Mumbai and how Mumbai has the opportunity to transition to an integrated mobility network with its urban fabric having strong connections established due to its public transit network, creating an active public realm that is resilient and more pedestrian friendly. With the population of India to increase rapidly in the coming years, cities like Mumbai need innovative integrated solutions that embraces its context and culture as opposed to more emphasis related to automobility.
